Zidan's Bundesliga Future in Doubt

Date: 14-11-2005
Wrote by: EP's reporter Ibrahim Azab

There is a little chance for Zidan to be a first team regular at Bremen after the expiration of his loan period at Mainz. In addition to this, the coach Jurgen Klopp is not willing to put Zidan in the main selection soon!

Coach/player relationship is not as perfect as it appears in photo

No Place at Bremen for Zidan:

Werder's striking duo, Miroslav Klose and Klasnic are currently at their best. Both strikers booked a starting position for themselves since the kick off of the current season which forced Werder to loan Zidan out to Mainz.

Playing first team football with Werder next season is far from being guaranteed especially in the presence of both top class forwards which forced the 3rd striker Valdez to express his dismay after getting very little time on the pitch and to declare that he will leave Bremen if they kept using him as a joker and not as a first team regular.

In addition to this, some recent rumours suggested that Bremen is willing to sign a Brazilian striker named Rafael Sobis. Although the football director Klaus Allofs denied these rumours, the news could be true and this will mean that Zidan's future at Bremen will be over.

German newspaper Kicker mentioned a qoute for Allofs in which he says: "There's not a jot of truth in it." He argued, that Bremen already have three non-European players in their team: Naldo, Valdez and Zidan (who´s on loan in Mainz till summer), so all three spots are taken.

The newspaper also suggested that Zidan's future is in doubt at Werder:

"But maybe this a red herring by Allofs. it´s unsure, if Zidan will play for Werder next season or will be sold. And Valdez threat Werder, that he will leave, if he has only the role of a joker in future".

So, Zidan's only hope that either Klose or Klansnic leave after the World Cup to other clubs and Werder don't sign any replacement for them which seems unlikely to happen thanks to the presence of Valdez and the possible transfer of Rafael Sobis.

Mainz Coach comments on Zidan's situation:

It may be logical that Werder have no place for Zidan this season because of the form of Klose/Klasnic. But at the struggling Mainz, it seems hard to understand why Zidan didn't play regularly so far.

Mohamed Zidan's coach at Mainz explained the situation by saying: "Mohamed is very motivated and wants to learn and improve, but he has deficits in tactical topics of football."

The Egyptian forward replied to these claims by saying: :"If I make mistakes in a match, then the coach should tell me and not put me on bench for the next matches."

With these comments from the Mainz coach, It is clear now that Zidan's style of play is not appreciated by the coach and he prefers more tactical players over skillful ones.

So, it seems that the situation of Zidan at Mainz is not much better than his situation at Bremen and it will not be a surprise to see him leaving the whole Bundesliga to a club that can appreciate his unmatched individual skills over his tactics.
