Zidan caught speeding; lands another court-date!

Date: 16-12-2004
Wrote: EP's reporter in Denramk Mike Bruski

FC Midtjylland's Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan was clocked by the police scanner as he was driving 142 km/h on a freeway between Herning and Hammerup in Jutland.

Zidan in court once again!

FCM's Press Secretary confirmed the matter, but also strongly denied that it would have any consequences for Zidan's future employment at FCM.

The speed of 142 kh/m is 77.5% higher than the allowed speed of 80 km/h and because of that high percentage, Zidan might risk losing his driver's license.

It is not the first time Zidan has been alleged to drive fast. Earlier in the month, when he was driving a reporter from Danish newspaper BT to Herning Station after an interview, he allegedly also speeded excessively, or so the reporter claimed afterwards.

He has a court-date on the 5th of Januray, almost exactly a month before the court-case regarding his stolen watch incident.

In that matter, Zidan is charged with paragraph 290, section 1, which deals with theft and purchase of stolen goods. The police prosecutor has stated that he is looking to get 18 months in jail for Zidan! However, 18 months is the maximum punishment one can get for this offence.

Zidan's lawyer, Fleming Jensen, is fairly confident that his client will get no more than a fine. He commented, "I think that most people can agree that 18 months in jail is excessive for this situation. We feel confident that he will be cleared of all charges. But if he is found guilty, I'm sure he'll receive no more than a fine, possibly a suspended sentence."

FCM's Sports Director Jens Orgaard has stated that the club supports Zidan 100%. They believe he is innocent, and that he will be cleared of all accusations.

Zidan himself could not be reached for a comment, as he is on vacation. Whether this new brush with the law will have any consequences for Zidan's ambitions to play for a big club soon, only time will tell. But everybody can agree that all the negative exposure is definitely not helpful for his reputation...
