Egyptian ace Amr Zaki made his home debut for Wigan against the strongest Premiership side Chelsea. The Egyptian proved that he can shake the strongest defenders as he testes Peter Cech twice in the first half and forced the centre back to make a foul on him in the 2nd half and receive a yellow card.

Wigan were extremely unlucky to concede an early goal as Deco struck the ball into the top corner from a freekick. The subsititute goalkeeper of Wigan Pollit could do better with the shot as he moved a step to the left before trying to go to the at full stretch which made it hard for him to reach the ball.

It should be noted that the main keeper of Wigan Kirckland was injjured during the warm up before the match and was removed from the squad for that reason.

Zaki forced Cech to make a save in the 7th minute of the game as he received a through pass from Koumas and advanced on the keeper before firing a low shot which was blocked by the goalkeeper.

Minutes later Palacios laid the ball with his backheel to Zaki whop had little room for the shot and he struck it with his left at goal but Cech denied him again.

Chelsea weren't effective at all in the first half and didn't deserve the lead but Wigan couldn't take their chances and couldn't create enough chances too despite their domination.

From Wigan Palacios and Zaki were the best players. Both tested Cech and apppeared to be going forward when they had the chance to do so.

In the 2nd half, Brude introduced the right winger De Ridder in place of Koumas but he had little impact. The left midfielder Valencia also didn't do well in the game and so, Zaki had to leave his position in the heart of attack and move to the left wing in order to get the ball as marking from John Terry and Carvalho was very tight in the middle.

After moving to the left wing, Zaki got the ball more, but that cancelled the danger of the Egyptian who no longer became a target man and instead, he played more as a supporter to Heskey at front. This tactic wasn't effective as Wigan lost their sharpness by losing Zaki in effective areas.

Despite playing on the left, Zaki was able to cause headache to Chelsea defenders with his pace and good control under pressure. He also forced Carvalho to bring him down and the Portuguese defender received a yellow card for the foul.

In the last minutes of the game, Bruce took Melchiott out and brought on Camara to asist in attack. Just a couple of minutes before the final whistle, Zaki squared the ball to Kapo who replaced Palacios and the French man almost scored from a low shot but Cech was able to deny him and the score remained 0-1 till the final whistle.
