Rami Shaaban's hopes of joining Tottenham Hotspurs
seem to be over, as they completed the signing today
of goalkeeper Radek Cerny from Slavia Prague.
The Czech international joins the club
on an 18-month contract. Spurs Sporting Director Frank
Arnesen had made it clear that the team needed another
goalkeeper after the loss of second keeper and American
international Kasey Keller. Rami Shaaban had been called
for a trial at the club, but it seems that the management
preferred Cerny.
Arnesen told the club's official web site, "We
were looking for a very good keeper, who has the ambition
to play, but also knows Paul Robinson is in front of
him. Cerny, who we know because of the relationship
with Slavia Prague, is an international player for the
Czech Republic behind Petr Cech."

It seems that Shaaban will now have to look elsewhere. It
is disappointing that this ideal move could not go ahead for
him, as it would have brought him back to North London, where
he had enjoyed his best times.
EP hopes that Rami can find a club soon and get back to action...
