Shaaban: No Norway, Maybe Germany

Date: 10-12-2004
Wrote: EP's reporter in England Karem Ahmed

EXCLUSIVE: Egyptian goalkeeper Rami Shaaban revealed to EP that he has rejected a chance to join Norwegian league side Lillestrom, but that he has a good chance of joining Bundeliga 2 side FC Saarbrücken.

Shaaban has been looking for a club since he was released by Premiership champions Arsenal at the end of last season. He has had interest from a number of clubs from but nothing has materialised. It now seems more likely that he will join one of the promising sides in the German second flight,
the Bundesliga 2.

Shaaban decided to reject the offer from Norwegian side Lillestrom, with which he was on trial for the last period. "I rejected it because it was too far money-wise," he told EP.

However, he quickly received interest from Bundesliga 2 side Saarbrücken, and a trial period with them seems to have been positive. Shaaban declared, "I went to germany to train with Saarbrücken from the league under Bundesliga and it went well."

"They are interested, but we have to wait and see how it goes," he told EP.

FC Saarbrücken are currently a promising 5th in Bundesliga 2, but 7 points off the top three promotion places. However, if they continue playing well this season, there is a good possibility of promotion to the top flight.

It is worth note that Shaaban is a free agent and does not have to wait for any transfer window before making a move.
