EXCLUSIVE: Egyptian
goalkeeper Rami Shaaban is still on the lookout for
a new club after his release by Arsenal, and it looks
like he will now be looking for a move in January, after
the transfer window in Europe closed on the 1st of September.
Still looking for action...
Shaaban had told EP that he had a number
of offers on the table, but that he was trying hard
to choose the best one for him, in terms of first team
football. Shaaban was accepted after his trial at St.
Etienne but decided to decline the offer, as it was
clear that he was only needed as backup. First team
football is first on his agenda, and the player is willing
to take a paycut from his wages at Arsenal, as long
as he gets to play more often. His salary at Arsenal
has proved a deterrent to many clubs who may have been
willing to offer him a contract. However, Shaaban has
made it clear that his first priority is first team
football and not money.
Shaaban still has the chance to move outside
Europe before January, with Al-Ahly being a possibility
after the player previously admitted their interest
in him to EP. However, Rami recently told EP that he
is not going to rush into his next transfer, as it is
of utmost importance to him and he must feel it is the
best step for his career.
After Leeds United decided to sign Neil Sullivan and
left Rami with no offer, the goalkeeper told EP that
there were other options but that he would be taking
his time over them. "I have other options but I
won't rush into things because I think my next move
will be very important," he stated.
It seems as though Rami Shaaban will be working hard
on finding a club between now and January, so that he
can get back to action and fulfill his hunger for the
game...
EP will keep you updated on any developments.
