Fredrikstad's pre-season has begun, and Rami Shaaban finally had his real debut.

The first match was against Danish side Viborg in an indoor tournament in Fredrikstad on January the 20th. Fredrikstad beat Viborg 3-0, and Rami was reported as having a solid match. Fredrikstad's goals were scored by Simen Brenne, Raio Piiroja, and Mihaly Toth.

The two other teams in the tournament were Norwegian league champions Valerenga and Swedish side IFK Goteborg. In their semi final encounter IFK beat Valerenga, meaning FFK met IFK Goteborg in the final. The final was a close match which FFK won 2-1 with goals from John Anders Bjorkoy (penalty) and Mihaly Toth. Rami Shaaban was rested in that match, leaving Steinar Sorlie to guard the goal.

January 28 to February 3, FFK participated in a tournament in Benidorm, Spain, with three other teams: Skonto Riga from Latvia, Spartak Moscow from Russia, and Shaktar Donetsk from Ukraine.

In their first match, FFK beat Skonto Riga 2-1, both goals scored by Simen Brenne. Shaaban had another solid game, and got special praise for the way he directed his defence.

FFK's match against Russian giants Spartak Moscow ended in a goalless draw. And in the deciding penalty shootout, Shaaban was the big hero saving two Russian penalties leading to a 5-4 FFK victory.

The last match against Ukrainian Shaktar Donetsk was, as it turned out, the final of the Benidorm tournament, and once again FFK came out the stronger team with a 2-1 victory. Gherland MacDonald claimed the winner in the 90th minute. Rami did not participate in that match due to a minor injury. There is nothing to be worried about though according to FFK's coaching staff. FFK's other goal was scored by John Anders Bjorkoy.

The season doesn't kick off again until a couple of months' time. EgyptianPlayers.com will keep you updated...
