After being released by the Gunners in last summer,
the half Egyptian shot stopper spent over 6 months looking
for a club.

In Summer, Arsenal had to release some
players, one of them was Rami Shaaban who spent most
of the time with the Gunners with a broken leg.
After Rami's recovery, he has been told
by Arsenal's boss Arsene Wenger that he is too good
to stay on bench, and so he will better find a starting
place in another club.
Rami spent month after month searching
for clubs, at first he travelled to France to trial
with the French team Saint
Etienne. However, they wanted Rami as a 2nd goalkeeper
and the half Egyptian decided not to sign for them.
"About St. Etienne, it was a nice
week in Biarritz. I got an offer but it was not good
enough, and they saw me as a 'number two' to start with.
I don't have a problem with this in the beginning because
I lacked first team football last year, but I also felt
that I wasn't 100% wanted, and that's not good."
Rami commented to EP about the French offer.
Soon after his trial with St. Etienne,
Rami spent some time on trial with the English Championship
team Leeds
United.
Leeds trialed Rami and the keeper seemed
positive on the move, but after consideration of the
Egyptian stopper, as well as Ian Bennet and Neil Sullivan,
the latter of the three was signed.
After both St. Etienne and Leeds deals
fell through, the wait continued for Rami as he spent
over two months looking for a club.
After that, Norwegian side Lillestrom
offered him another trial. However, Shaaban decided
to reject the offer from Norwegian side Lillestrom,
with which he was on trial for the last period. "I
rejected it because it was too far money-wise,"
he told EP.
However, he quickly received interest
from Bundesliga 2 side Saarbrücken, and a trial
period with them seems to have been positive. Shaaban
declared, "I went to Germany to train with Saarbrücken
from the league under Bundesliga and it went well."
