Rami Shaaban has featured heavily in the British media
over the last few days following his return to action
for Brighton last week. EP presents summaries of some
of the media coverage, as the prospect of a deal being
signed with Brighton seems ever closer in the coming
days.
Mirror Article
The Daily Mirror featured a full page article based
on Rami Shaaban, with the heading:
"RAM-EMBER ME? KEEPER SHAABAN IS ALL BRIGHT NOW"
The article revolved around Shaaban's return, and how
his eventual aim is to get back up to playing at a high
level. "Rami Shaaban is plotting a way back to
the big time after successfully coming through his first
competitive game for two years" it said.
The article included an interview with the goalkeeper,
and Shaaban was keen to express his happiness at returning
to action, but also his hunger for more in the future.
"Everybody who leaves Arsenal feels they haven't
been given a fair chance, but I don't feel I made a
single mistake in my five games for them... I did very
well and then broke my leg. Of course I wanted to remain
but I don't blame Arsenal. Now it's up to me to perform
and I might end up there or somewhere else"
"I have to start somewhere, no offence to Brighton,
but wherever I went from Arsenal it would be a lesser
club. I know I've played in the top league and one day
hopefully I'll be there again"

BBC Radio Five Live
Rami Shaaban was also interviewed on leading radio station
BBC Radio Five Live. The interview dealt with the player's
return, as well as reflecting on some of his times at
Arsenal. EP presents some quotes from the interview...
Regarding his departure from Arsenal, Shaaban said that
he understood Wenger's unwillingness to change a successful
side, following his recovery from injury.
"Because we hadn't lost anything, the boss wouldn't
change, and I understand him 100%... I wouldn't do that
either... So I was on the bench in the end against Liverpool,
Newcastle and Portsmouth and so on. And then my contract
expired in the summer and I had to look around, and
I didn't find anything that suits me. I went to a few
clubs and they offered me contracts, but it wasn't what
I was hoping for.
"So I went back to Sweden again to train with my
old team, and I felt I wasn't in the same 100% shape
as I was when I played for Arsenal in the Champions
League and Premier League. So I had been working much
on my footwork by playing a lot of squash and that had
helped me a lot"
The presenters remarked that it must have certainly
helped keep his new team in the game on Saturday, in
what was a fine win for Brighton.

On whether it was nervous ahead of his
first game in two and a quarter years, Shaaban said
"Yes, it was, because I didn't know where I was
standing. You can't compare a reserve game with a competitive
game, so it was... but not very nervous. It was obviously
a lot of fun too, to be back and know that I'm fit now,
because the injury I got was a career threatening injury,
so I'm very thankful that I'm back.
