Latest Turkish delight: Gouda!

Date: 30-7-2004

Egyptian talent Mohamed Gouda finally negotiated with the Turkish side Ankaragucu and signed an official contract today. They beat Diyarbakirspor to his signature.

Gouda joined Disuki and Ramadan

Gouda will be the third Egyptian of this Ankara club who had Disuki and Ramadan in last season's squad.

Gouda and his new club met in a press ceremony and the chairman of the club praised his new player. Cemal Aydin couldn't hide his delight regarding the end of the transfer negotiations with the Egyptian midfielder.

Gouda signed his contract and stated to the press that he is very happy to be a player of Ankaragucu. Mohamed Gouda wore his new shirt and pictured himself to the cameras.

Chairman Aydin talked as, "We made all the transfers which our manager wanted. We'll decide our 25 player squad in future days and will eliminate some to reach this number. We set a good team."

Aydin continued with the transfer of Gouda, "It was a hard period. We wanted him so much. Some other teams from Turkey were interested in him but he chose us. That is the most important thing. He wanted Ankara and came to us to trial for a week. Our manager reported to us that he'll be very useful and requested from us to sign him immediately."

Aydin added, "Gouda came to us from Egyptian club Al Ahly. Ahly wanted a special contract from us. If he'll return to Egypt one day, Gouda has to play for Al Ahly. If we want to sell him, we'll pay 25% of his fee to Ahly. 75% of his rights are purchased and 25% are given to the Egyptian outfit because of their special requests for the valuable player. I believe he'll be very successful and effective in the Super league. I wish he'll come with his energy and be useful for us. We'll transfer one more foreigner and close our transfers before the start of the season."

However, this move could trigger the release of Disuki or Ragab, most likely Ramadan who is not wanted at the club.

On the other hand, the other Ankara based club, Genclerbirligi of El Saka were drawn with Croatian side Rijeka in the second qualification round of the UEFA Cup. The matches will be on the 12th and 26th of August with the first of them being in Turkey.

Ahmed Hassan's Besiktas will join the UEFA cup from the first round. Cup winner Gencler has to win the match to join the Besiktas.
