Mohamed Shawky finally started for
Boro in their important away clash with Newcastle United.
Habb Beye gave Boro the lead by scoring into his own
net after three minutes from the start but Taylor equalized
in the 9th minute.
Shawky did well till he was substituted
in the 69th minute with Aliadiere as Southgate wanted
to increase his attacking options. However, right after
Shawky's exit, Boro lost their grip on the game as Martins
scored from inside the box to make the score 2-1 while
Løvenkrands added the 3rd four minutes before
the final whistle.
With this poor result, Boro remained 19th
with 31 points, they have two games to play before the
end of season and a couple of wins could change things
for them, but it seems that they will be going down
to the Championship this season.
Southgate vs Shearer:
Manager decisions made the difference
in the game tonight. Southgate took Shawky off from
midfield and inroduced a right winger, Aliadiere. However
this gave Newcastle total domination on midifeld area
as Shawky's positioning was very good and he made a
good link between defense and offense.
On the other hand, Shearer brought Martins
on and he made an immediate impact by scoring the crucial
2nd goal for the homeside which won them the game.
Shawky's performance:
Shawky was solid in midfield, he didn't
give possession cheaply but ont he other hand, showed
good harmoney with the rest of Boro players. He also
had an effort on goal in the 2nd half but his shot went
well over the bar.
