Reports: Boro Seeking Mido Replacement

Date: 19-1-2009
Wrote by: EP's reporter Mostafa Khalil

According to the Mirror newspaper, Boro's boss Gareth Southgate is looking for a replacement for his injury prone striker Mido. Reports suggested that Aston Villa's striker Harewood is seen as the right replacement for Mido who is eying a move out the Teesside in the current transfer window.

Mido's injury proneness could result in him being offloaded to another club in the current window. Boro's underfire coach Gareth Southgate is said to be keen on signing Aston Villa's striker Marlon Harewood as a replacement for the 26 year old Egyptian.

Southgate's job is currently extremely insecure after the recent run of poor results for Boro and their 3-0 away loss to WBA. The whole team morale is very low at the moment and the board could sack Southgate at any time.

The Boro manager is looking for a speedy resolution to get the team out of relegation battle and Mido's frequent injuries are not helping him achieve this goal.

Southgate criticized Mido for his frequent injuries a few days ago, and it seems that the Egyptian international is no longer backed by the young manager.

It is known that Mido didn't start the last two matches for Boro but he came on from bench although he was fully fit to start. However, Southgate always prefers to start with Alves although the latter missed three real chances versus WBA.

Against WBA on Saturday, the Boro fans feel that Mido is no longer giving his all for the team. They realize that the Egyptian is not happy at Boro anymore and is trying to find a new club before the closure of the current transfer window.

Even if these claims are true, Mido looked far superior than Alves when he came on on Saturday. He provided a key pass to Alves but the latter headed wide and also almost scored a legit goal but it was ruled out for offisde by the match referee.

Aside from Mido news and his transfer speculations, it was interesting to see his compatriot Shawky come back to selection versus WBA. Shawky played a decent game despite the heavy 3-0 defeat. He is also expected to start the tough clash with Chelsea next weekend especially after the sending off of Digard.
