Boro suffered a shocking defeat at the
hands of recently promoted side WBA.The loss is the
first for Boro at home this season. Mido and Shawky's
side created many chances but failed miserably to hit
the target especially Afonso Alves. Mido played the
full match and was the best Boro player on the field.
On the other hand, Shawky came off after Boro conceded
the goal to make way for the more attacking player Digard.
Middlesboro fans will have every reason
to be upset with their team after their 0-1 shock defeat
against West Bromwich Albion.
Boro created the chances, had most of
the possession and the goalkeeper Turnbull was doing
great until the 53rd minute when he made a fatal error
that led to the goal which came through the central
defender Olsson.
Mido should be happy with his display
though. The Egyptian centre forward won almost every
header, made many nice flick ons and didn't waste any
clear chances. However, he picked up a yellow card in
the 58th minute which could have been avoided.
Mido played a great one-two with Alves
in the first half but the Brazilian hit the bar and
couldn't score. Alves also almost headed home a few
minutes later but his header was cleared off the line.
Mido had a single attempt on goal when
he tried a shot from the edge of the box but his shot
went wide.
After the WBA goal, Boro made a couple of substitutions
to increase their attacking options. Southgate took
Shawky off for the more offensive minded midfielder
Digard and also brough Johnson on at the expense of
Aliadiere.
Boro had most of the possession once again
and created many chances. Mido in particular created
a great chance to O'Neil but the latter failed to put
the ball home from close range. The Egyptian also had
an effort from close range but the keeper parried it
and it fell to him again but Alves got in his way and
wasted the chance for Boro.
WBA on the other hand, had a couple of
chances to extend their lead from counter attacks but
they failed to convert and the game ended in a 0-1 win
for them.
It should be noted that Mido and Sawky
will travel to Wigan to face their compatriot Amr Zaki
in one special game for Egyptian football fans. The
game will be played on the 4th of October.
