Boro failed to qualify to the next round
in Carling Cup as they suffered a 3-1 defeat against
Man United. The home side took the lead in the first
half from a well placed header by C. Ronaldo. However,
Adam Johnson who replaced Shawky in the 2nd half managed
to level the score. But defensive blunders cost Boro
the game as Pogatetz was sent off after a cynical foul
while his substitute Riggot made an error that led to
the 2nd goal for United. In addition to this, the other
defender David Wheater made another fatal error that
led to the 3rd goal.

Defensive Blunders Cost Boro:
Middlesboro are out of the Carling Cup
after a 3-1 away defeat against a Superior Manchester
United. Boro conceded first as Cristiano Ronaldo headed
home from a corner kick in the 25th minute.
The first half witnessed a complete dominance
from Manchester United who used their technique and
quick passing to outplay Boro.
Boro started with 4-3-3 formation with
Shawky, O'Neil and Digard in the middle while Pogatetz,
Aliadiere and Alves played at front.
Shawky was good in the firat half, his
passiing and tackles were accurate but after conceding
the goal, Southgate replaced the Egyptian during half
time with a the attacking midfielder Adam Johnson.
The substitute brought Boro back into
the game through a powerful volley shot after a poor
clearance from the Man United defense.
Despite drawing level early on in the
2nd half, some defensive fatal errors cost the side
the game.
