Shawky played from start for Boro in their home match versus Stoke. He did well and had an attempt on goal which was saved. He also was fouled in a harsh way by Diagne-Faye who received a red card for the foul. Afonso Alves scored a great goal from the freekick that Shawky won to put Boro in the lead. However, in the end half the new signing from Arsenal Hoyte scored in his own net to level the score again. The winner came in the 84th minute through Tuncay. The other Egyptia, Mido played for only ten minutes and that wasn't enough for him to show his quality in the game.
