Mido: Star of final minutes of each transfer window

Nobody can doubt the talent of Egyptian ace Mido. He can easily be one of the world's top 20 strikers with some hard work and luck. However, the Egyptian is doomed with injuries and when he recovers, he gains weight and will have to put much effort in order to lose the weight that he gained during injury which hinders his progress as a player.

Mido is one of the players who became stars in every transfer window. He played for seven European clubs so far while he is only 25. Hossam is a striker who hates the bench and wants to enjoy playing football, so he doesn't accept playing as a sub in a big named club and would prefer playing as a key player in smaller clubs rather than playing as rotation player in bigger teams.

The Egyptian left Spurs last season after he realized that Berbatov, Keane and Defoe are all above him in the order of selection. The Egyptian joined Boro hoping to be their main star and he was for a couple of matches. The injuries plagued the striker and Boro had to buy Afonso Alves for 12m pounds to compensate the absence of the Egyptian forward.

In summer, Mido worked very hard to regain his fitness and lose the extra weight that he gained during his injury. However, he found it hard to reclaim his starting spot despite being fit and sharp on goal.

Hossam came on with just a few minutes left against Spurs to score the 2nd goal against his former club. He also came on as sub to turn the tables and stun Liverpool at their home stadium, the Anfield. Southgate played Mido a full match in the Carling Cup and the Egyptian did well as he scored and assisted.

Mido is now putting much pressure on Southgate with such form and ability to score. None of the strikers Tuncay and Alves scored a single goal while the super sub Mido scored three in three matches.

The fans started to chant Mido's name again and are asking the coach to start with Mido. It is fair to see Mido starting against Stoke City on Saturday but it seems that Southgate still wants to start with his preferred duo Alves and Tuncay in that game.

Both the Turk and the Brazilian didn't play a single minute in the Carling Cup while Mido played the full match which means that both strikers were rested for the more important clash with Stoke.

Mido might feel that he deserves to start especially after showing that he is in a great form and shape. However, Southgate couldn't promise Mido a starting spot, he said that Mido has to concentrate on one club and not a single Premiership club can guarantee him a starting spot in all the games.

Such statement from Southgate means that Mido is still behind Alves and Tuncay in the picking order. On the other hand, coach of Wigan Steve Bruce is a keen admirer of Mido and would like to pair him with Zaki in attack especially if Heskey will join Tottenham.

For that reason, Mido might make a last minute move to Wigan. This forced Southgate to make special comments on the Egyptian on the club official website.

"It's time he had a more settled period in his career and was at a club for a bit longer and if that period takes us where I think it can, I think he will enjoy it," he said.

"His attitude to not starting at the moment has been first class. He's had a big impact for us from the bench and he's pushing hard to be in the starting line-up.

"I've said to him, I want him to be part of this football club. I understand that he wants to play and he will be causing me headaches in terms of selection."

Southgate revealed that Mido wasn't a main part of his plans last season due to injury and earlier this season, he didn't expect such stellar form from the Egyptian:

"At the start of the season it was easy because Mido hadn't played pre-season matches," he explained.

"But I don't want it to be easy - we had that last season.

"If we want to be competitive as a team, not just this month but in November, December and January, we need that strength in depth. He knows how I feel about him and what I want from him.

Southgate statements means that Mido is offering depth to the squad but he is still not playing the key role at the club.

"He enjoys it here but he wants to play regularly. I work with him and all the players and I think the reason he joined us is because he believes in what we're trying to do and he can play a big part in that.

The fans are extremely frustrated to read the news that Mido is going to leave Boro. The club fans website VitalMiddlesboro wrote an article on Mido with the title of "Selling Mido Would Be A Big Mistake".

Southgate admits that the Egyptian is the crowd favorite, but he stressed that no one at the club gaurantees a starting spot.

"He's a big crowd favourite, despite all the problems he had last season, because he's a good footballer."

"We know what he's got and all the forward players we've got have different attributes and assets," said Southgate.

"During the game on Saturday Mido showed he has physical power and the ability to win headers, which is something our other strikers don't have.

"We've got the four strikers from last season plus Marvin, who can play up front, and the way we're playing now we could also put Adam Johnson or Stewart Downing into that area.

"It gives us options to pick the team according to who we're playing against."

Mido remains the star of every transfer window since his move to Europe. Will he make another move in the coming couple of days? Only time will tell...
