Boro's Argentinean midfielder Julio Arca
is confirmed to be out of action for six weeks following
his injury last week. This will give Shawky a chance
of a lifetime to establish himself as a first team regular
in the new season which will kick off on the 16th this
month.
Julio Arca will be out for Six weeks.
This has been confirmed yesterday and it means that
Boro's boss Gareth Southgate will have limited options
in midfield.
Such situation will boost Shawky's chances
dramatically ahead of the new season as Boro had hopes
that their Argentinean central midfielder will be fit
before the kick off of the Premiership on the 16th of
August. However, with Arca's injury blow, Southgate
will have to rely on Shawky and new signing Digard in
central midfield.
It should be noted that the first match
for Boro will be against Mido's former side, Tottenham
Hotspur.
It is also worth noting that Shawky became an integral
part in Southgate plans this summer and the Egyptian
participated in the latest friendly versus Darlington
and played the full ninety minutes.
Boro will play their final preseason match
tomorrow against the Dutch Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam.
Both Mido and Shawky will likely take part in that game
as Boro are expected to test their starting eleven in
that match as it will be the final preparation before
the new season.
