Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Shawky played
a full match for Boro as they faced Darlington in a
friendly. The match ended in a 5-0 win.
Mido wasn't selected for the match and
many of the key players as well. Souththgate preferred
to rest his important first team players for the important
friendly against Sparta Rotterdam.
In the opening 25 minutes, Boro were the
better side but couldn't convet. On the other side,
Darlington used harsh tackling to stop Boro players.
Shawky did well in midfield and despite the agressive
play from the homeside, the Egyptian remained solid.
The first half ended in a 2-0 lead for
Boro as Johnson and Emnes scored in the 29th and 42nd
minutes respectively.
In the 2nd half, Darlington started with pressure on
Boro but Shawky and Walker did well in spoiling the
home side attacks.
In the 60th minute, Darlington defender
Hardman put the ball into his own net to make the score
3-0 for Boro. Ten Minutes later, McMahon scored the
4th while Johnson added the 5th a couple of minutes
after the 4th goal.
