Shawky didn't even make the bench!

Mohamed Shawky has been completely absent from today's big clash between Man United and Boro. The Egyptian didn't make it to the last 16 squad. While the reason beyond Shawky's was not known, it may be due to the return of Julio Arca to the main selection as the Argentine started alongside Boateng in midfield while Lee Cattermole remained on bench.

The game was exciting from the start to end with plenty of chances especially for the Boro side who would emerge victorious if they could make better use of the chances that they got.

In the first 10 minutes, the game looked easy for Man United as they managed to score early on via Christiano Ronaldo who fired the ball home from inside the box after a fine low cross by Michael Carrick from the left wing.

Minutes after the goal, Boro started to look dangerous with their attacks and Aliadiere got a great chance to score after a fine through pass by Arca but the Frenchman oddly put the ball wide.

Minutes later, Afonso Alves shot the ball powerfully from a freekick but Van der Sar managed to parry, Downing went for the follow but Van der Sar made a brave dive and turned the ball into a corner.

In the 2nd half, the situation didn't change as Boro remained dangerous with their attacks while Manchester United's danger came through the pace of Ronaldo and Rooney.

In the 56th minute, Alves scored his personal second from a one on one situation with Van der Sar, the Brazilian took the ball so well and placed it into the far comer to make the score 2-1.

After this goal, the score could even be extended for Boro if they took advantage of the great flick on by Aliadiere to Alves. The latter could head the ball home but it came off Ferdnand's body and went out for a corner instead.

Sir Alex Furgeson made a tactical change a few minutes later and it helped the guests to come back into the game. He brought Park Song in place of Carlos Tevez. Song had a positive impact as he assisted the 2nd goal from a clever move and cross from the right wing to Rooney who found the net and made the score 2-2.

The draw kept Manchester United at top of the table while Boro moved up a place and became 14th.
