The midfielder said to EgyptianPlayers.com
on Tuesday evening: "Thanks to God, I've managed
to start playing.
"Before the African Cup of Nations the boss (Gareth
Southgate) would always sit with me and talk to me,
because I hadn't adapted to the conditions, the weather
and the pace of the game."
Shawky added that his international duty in Ghana came
at a time when he had started to adapt, but that since,
he has been better. "I had to go to the Afrian
Cup of Nations as soon as I was getting into things
seriously here.
"But since then I've had some good games and feel
better."
