Cardiff City Stun Hopeless Boro!

Date: 9-3-2008

Mido and Shawky's Boro got eleiminated from the FA cup after losing terribly at home to championship side Cardiff City by two goals to nil. Boro failed in every aspect of the game, goalkeeping, defending, midfielders and forwards were all at their worst. Mido started on bench and came on during half time to replace Alves. However, he failed to make any positive impact.

Terrible Display by Middlesboro:

Boro entered the match with big chances to qualify. They played at home with large crowd supporting them. They didn't miss any of their players due to injury apart from Shawky and the suspended Aliadiere. They are (on paper) the much better side that should reach the semi-final with ease.

However, real world performance was quite different as Cardiff scored a fine goal in the opening minutes which was followed by a second thanks to the poor positioning from Boro's defense.

Boro made Cardiff look like world beaters in the first half. Defending was poor and midfield was chaotic as Arca and Rochemback kept hoofing the ball clear and failed to deliver any decent ball to Tuncay or Alves.

The Turkish international Tuncay was in extremely poor shape as well, his first touch was awful and almost won zero headers.

On the other hand, Alves was anonymous in the first half apart from a fine shot that was parried by the goalkeeper.

Mido couldn't make the desired impact:

Mido replaced Alves during halftime, but he barely got the ball in the 2nd half. Cardiff put Boro players under big pressure and all the passes went astray. Mido was heavily marked and couldn't cause any threat.

Big chance wasted:

Championship side Barnsley managed to beat Chelsea and Portsmouth beat Manchester United, meaning less competition for Middlesbrough in the FA Cup. However, Mido and Shawky's side failed to win.

The FA cup win for Boro would mean UEFA cup qualification but with such abysmal display, they will have to fight bravely to avoid relegation from Premiership this season.
