The Boro coach also added that it was hard to introduce
new players while the club is on a bad form.
"With the team not doing so well it's hard to
throw people into the fray straight away and, as we've
seen with the likes of Tuncay and others who come from
aboard, it takes people time to adapt.
"He's been in and around the squad for us and
we're hoping he can make that step up soon.
"We think he's adjusting very well, he realises
that as a strong player in the league he was playing
in that doesn't necessarily follow into the Premier
League because it's a different style, all the players
are fast and the games very intense.
"He can see that in the training sessions and
even the reserve games he has played in.
"You can see that he's an intelligent player and
he's got qualities. In more recent weeks it's just been
a case of George Boateng and Fabio Rochemback have been
outstanding and we've got Julio Arca coming back from
injury so that area of the field is very strong for
us."
"He understands he's here not just for a couple
of months but for the longer term and he wants to know
all the time what he has to do to get into the side,
which is great.
"He's very keen to make a success of his move
to England and these things take time.
"He's still a young player, he enjoys living here
and wants it to work out and given time we will see
a player there."
According to these comments from Southgate, Shwky will
remain a Boro player at least this season. The Egyptian
will unlikely get involved in games though before the
ACN. However, he may get his chance in the 2nd half
of season...
