Speaking about his bustup with Dutch manager Ronald Koeman when he was playing for Ajax, he said:

"I was really young, only 18,". "And he (Koeman) was inexperienced as a manager.

"I wasn't so clever at that time and I've done some stupid stuff, but you learn from your own mistakes.

Mido also mentioned that he is now mature enough to deal in a more professional way:

"When you're young you have a different way of thinking, and it wasn't easy for me to not be playing.

"If the manager put me on the bench it was a big deal, and I couldn't stand it. Now it's different - if you're not playing you take it in a different way.

"For example, at Spurs when I wasn't playing I tried to train hard and get back in the team."

Speaking on his former club, Tottenham, Mido said:

"People in Egypt are always following the Premier Legue," he said. "The strange thing was I was - not really a fan - but I always wanted to watch the Spurs team with Jurgen Klinsmann in.

"It's a great club and I was very happy there, but as a footballer you always want to play. The club went to buy Dimitar Berbatov, he did very well and I had to look for somewhere else to play. It's as simple as that.

"At the time I thought 'if I've done very well, why is the club trying to sign Berbatov instead of signing me' (I was on loan at the time). But, actually, Berbatov has done very well for Spurs so I think they were right!"

Mido's start to his Boro career has been hampered by a persistent groin injury, and he has had to watch from the sidelines as Gareth Southgate's side has slipped into the bottom three.

But the 24-year-old has no doubts that Southgate is the right man for the job.

He said: "We haven't been lucky with injuries or results, but the lads are responding to the gaffer and that's the most important thing.

"I've played for so many clubs and worked with so many different managers, and Southgate is doing everything possible to get the maximum from the team.

"We are all behind him and he is totally in control of the dressing room. The only reason you should sack a manager is if he is not in control of the players, and that is not the case."

It should be noted that Boro are lying deep into the relegation zone and they need to improve their form in order to avoid relegation at end of season as the side faile to achieve any Premiership win since their home win against Birmingham.
