Mido didn't celebrate hsi goal but he went to Newcastle
fans and asked them furiously to shut up
For the second time in his career in England,
Egyptian striker Mido was subjected to anti-Islamic
chants by Newcastle supporters during yesterday's derby.
The 3000 Newcastle supporters who attended
the game kept singing hostile anti-Arab chants and taunted
the Egyptian with "Mido, he's got a bomb, Mido,"
As a result, Mido headed directly to silence
the Newcastle fans after scoring his goal and told them
furiosly to keep quiet.
Speaking on the incident, Boro's coach
Gareth Southgate commented:
"We obviously had to get him to calm
down a bit in the first half and after the goal he got
booked,"
"But I always find it strange when
3,000 people are allowed to abuse one person and nothing
is done and then when the boot is on the other foot
he gets in trouble. In terms of civil liberties, I find
that a strange situation, really." he added.
It should be noted that the Egyptian was a victim of
racial taunts by West
Ham Unitesd fans as well when he played against
them for the first time a couple of years ago and the
club had to issue an official apology to the Egyptian.
It is not known yet if Newcastle officials
will react similarly or not. But EP will keep you updated...
