In a surprising twist, Blues are renewing
their interest in an Egyptian player after their potential
deals with Hossam Ghaly and Mido both fell earlier this
transfer window.
Bruce appeared on Sky Sports television on Wednesday
confirming that Birmingham are "trying again"
to lure Mido to the club.
"We still hope we can do something with the boy,"
said Bruce.
"We've been patient," he added.
Mark Hughes last summer had attempted to buy the Egyptian
for Blackburn Rovers and travelled to Rome to talk with
him. He then complained that it was the longest transfer
negotiation he'd ever been involved in.
In the mean time, Sunderland have confirmed that they
have made an offer for Mido, and it is thought that
another club is interested.
Fulham, who are thought to be chasing Ahmed Hossam may
well leave it there. The club have just signed striker
Hameur Bouazza. The Algerian international leaves Watford
and signs a four-year deal with Mohamed Al-Fayed's club.
Birmingham City are meanwhile thought to be continuing
their interest in Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Shawky.
