Following Sunderland's 1-1 preseason draw
with Juventus, the former Manchester United player and
current Black Cats manager said: "I hope to have
news [of signings] in the next 24 to 48 hours."
He went on to name Mido as one of two targets, the
other being Scotland keeper Craig Gordon.
"Mido's a player I've been aware of for some time,"
said Keane.
"I think we could provide Mido with a challenge
and he would provide the other strikers here with a
challenge."
The recently promoted club are yet to buy a strong
name, and Mido may well be the fan-favourite. Should
they fail to negotiate Mido to the club, veteran Andrew
Cole is the likely alternative.
Spurs are expected to ask for £6 million, but
again much depends on Mido's view and whether Sunderland
are able to pay his high wages.
The red and white side are owned by former Ireland
striker Niall Quinn, whom many Egyptians may remember
from the 1990 World Cup. Being a former target striker
- like Mido - and currently employing Dwighte Yorke
up-front in his side, the Egyptian may well be attracted
to this move.
