EXCLUSIVE: Premiership outfit Portsmouth are looking for a striker but have refused to comment on any possible interest in Mido.

Reports in Egypt suggested that Mido was on his way to Pompey, but the club are yet to make clear which strikers they are going for in the market.

Harry Redknapp had admitted interest in Jermain Defoe and Fredi Kanoute but it is not certain whether a move has been made for them. David Nugent, of Preston North End, who scored for England in his only cap, is in talks with Pompey at this very moment (Monday).

The club policy does not allow them to confirm or deny interest in any players. In a statement to EgyptianPlayers.com, Portsmouth FC said: "We cannot make any announcement before any transfers take place."

The club reporter for newspaper Portsmouth Today did tell EP that interest in Mido would not come as a surprise, though the club has not mentioned the Egyptian at all up to today.

EP understands that if there is indeed interest in Mido, it is very far from concrete. Pompey were offered Mido by Spurs, it seems, and are not actually themselves going out to buy him.
