Spurs decide to keep Mido

Date: 1-2-2007
Wrote by: EP's reporter in England, Mostafa Al-Mossallami

After persistent rumours regarding Mido's future, the transfer window slammed shut at midnight without a move going through. This could be attributed to Mido's improved performance in yesterday's semi-final, were he threw his team a 30 minute lifeline but to no avail, and Martin Jol's
unwillingness to part with his striker.

Speaking on Skysports.com, he admitted to blocking any move for Mido during the transfer window. The Egyptian hit-man who had attracted interest from Manchester City and Celta Vigo had opportunities to leave the club but Jol decided to keep him.

"There was an opportunity for Mido to leave but I want him to stay, so that is the end of it," Jol said.

Mido's return to form should see him return to the first team for Spurs' Premiership clash against leaders Manchester United.
