Mido has represented two clubs this season: the maximum number for a year. Although not confirmed, EgyptianPlayers.com points attention towards the rule that could mean any talk of Mido leaving is all a waste of time.

Mido's 70th minute entrance in the Italian Super Cup means no January transfer...

Article 5 of FIFA's 'Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players' states:

"Players may be registered for a maximum of three clubs during the period from 1 July until 30 June of the following year. During this period, the player is only eligible to play in Official Matches for two clubs. "

Ahmed Hossam has played for both AS Roma and Tottenham Hotspur between the 1st of July 2006 and now, meaning that he should be illegible to play for any other club until July 2007.

Mido played just one game with Roma after July, before signing for Spurs. On the 24th of August he came on in the 70th minute of the Italian Super Cup .

The Italian Super Cup is an official match within the Italian Football Federation, and would therefore count as an official FIFA game.

However, this week sees one club trying to force an exception to the rule. Liverpool are keen on buying Javier Mascherano, who has played for both Corinthians and West Ham United in the specified period. Liverpool have appealed on the grounds that the Argentine had only played 6 minutes for his former club. FIFA state however that "there is no provision that allows for any kind of waiving of this rule." Liverpool are now trying to bring the player on loan with a signing option, but again this seems unlikely within FIFA's rules which specify the word "play".

So it seems that Mido's late entrance in the Super Cup may have an effect nobody would have imagined at the time.

Even if the striker's departure is, as claimed by some, imminent, it will still have wait until the summer!
