Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol praised Mido following his winner against West Ham United on Sunday. However, the Egyptian's goal has been overshadowed by Jermain Defoe's bite, which made the headline for almost every match report.

The Dutchman explained the obvious importance of Mido's goal in his post-match interviews, though he was a little unhappy that Spurs failed to get a second goal to secure their situation.

Jol also confirmed that Mido was put into the line-up and had a big job due to the unavailability of Dimitar Berbatov.

Finally, he praised Ahmed Hossam's threat to the opposition's goal. "Before the goal it was difficult for him (Mido) but then he showed what he was all about. If he gets the ball in the box he is always dangerous," commented Jol to Sky.

Meanwhile, it was Jermain Defoe's nibble on Mascherano that made the headlines in the English press. Every major national newspaper included the incident in their report's headline.

After a foul by the Argentine, Defoe jumped at him, snapping with his teeth. "To receive a bite was the worst thing that's happened to me since I came to England," said Mascherano on Tuesday. "I have a mark on my arm... I never thought I would receive a bite in The Premiership." Defoe has however escaped any discipline from the FA, and has been defended by a number of names, though Jol had admitted that "Jermain was nibbling Mascherano's arm."

Tottenham are playing shortly in the Carling Cup against Milton Keynes Dons. EgyptianPlayers.com will bring you a report on the game in due course...
