Derby vs Sunderland (0-0) [Ghaly came on]

Date: 1-3-2008
Wrote: EP’s reporter Ahmad Matar

Hossam Ghaly didn't start the game against Sunderland but he came on in the 2nd half. The match ended in a boring goal-less draw but Ghaly made a great life saying tackle just minute before full time to deny Sunderland from scoring the match winner.

  • Ghaly didn't start today's match between Derby and Sunderland. The game ended in a dull 0-0 draw which extended Derby's inability to win to 22 games!

coach Paul Jewel criticized the team after last week's loss and decided to make some changes by putting Ghaly and Fagan on the bench, and suspending the captain Savage.

This match saw Derby with the worst home record (six points from 13 matches) against Sunderland, one with the worst away record (two from 14).

Derby started with the aging centre-backs Stubbs and Moore in the absence of Leacock and Davis. Savage was left out completely, with David Jones winning a recall in midfield.

Ghaly came on in the 57th minute to replace the injured Jones, He didn't change a lot of the poor performance of both teams, as he didn't create chances although he made some good passes and won tackles .

In the 33rd minute, Chopra scored for Sunderland but the goal was ruled out for offside! Replay revealed that the referee's decision was wrong.

In the 42nd minute, Sunderland almost scored another goal but this time comic defending by Alan Stubbs could cost him and his side a goal. However the ball went just wide.

In the 56th minute Derby almost scored as first Miller then Villa fail to convert crosses into the Sunderland net during a hectic period in Sunderland's area.

Egyptian Ghaly didn't get the ball often today, but he made the highlight of the match for Derby as his great life saving tackle in stoppage time saved Derby from defeat.
