  • Speaking on his loan move to derby, Ghaly said:

"This is a chance to prove myself again, from the beginning, to play games,"

"The Premier League is a good opportunity for everyone to prove themselves, so I want to show I can play good football to help me make my next move.

"You don't look at the position of the team, you just focus on doing well, to help the team. It is a relief to be playing first-team football again."

Ghaly knew that his Spurs career is over after he throw the shirt in front of fns at the home match versus Blackburn in which he was substituted after minutes of coming on:

"I was told the problem I made at Tottenham was to throw the shirt down. I've been told my future at Tottenham is over now. I went back to Cairo to play games for the national team and to keep fit.

"I didn't mean to insult someone, the fans or anybody, I was only angry with my own performance. I wanted to make it better.

"Everybody can make mistakes - and learn from them. The punishment from Tottenham was very harsh."

Such events have led to Ghaly earning a bad boy reputation but he stressed that this is far from being true:

"I'm a quiet person, he added. "It's not my character to be aggressive or difficult. I hope on the field I can be aggressive and work hard and make the manager satisfied he has made a good decision."

Ghaly understands the difficult situation of Derby in the table and adds that this was due to lack of confidence and harmony between the new players as well.

"Derby have good players and just need to play with more confidence. We need more time together - it was difficult having four or five new players coming in together - to get more understanding."

On his new teammate at the heart of midfield, Robbie Savage, Ghaly said:

"He's a good lad and a good player, he has spent many years in the Premier League. He's very nice on the field and has tried to help me. I can learn from him."

The Egyptian also cleared some things regarding his move to Birmingham which was cancelled in the last minute:

“I didn’t complain about the training in Birmingham. I was surprised when I heard that I had refused to run. That is wrong. When someone asks me to run, I run.

“But you know when you go to a place and you feel uncomfortable. It was like this for me and I told my agent that I did not feel comfortable. It was nothing to do with the training ground or the manager — it was just not right.”

It should be noted that Ghaly's Derby will play away from home on Saturday versus Portsmouth and the Egyptian is expected to start in the game.
