Ghaly
made his first appearence this season and his debut
for Derby in their home clash with Wigan. Ghaly did
well considering it was his first game in months. He
got a chance to set up a goal for Barnes but the latter
couldn't score. Generally, Wigan were the better side
and they took advantageof the sending off of Rams' Davis
as they scored late in the 2nd half.
Egyptian midfielder Hossam Ghaly made his debut for
Derby just a few hours from transferring to the Rams
on loan till the end of season.
The Rams faced Wigan at home in a hope
they can achieve a win that can help them moving out
of the bottom of the table.
Helped by their new signings, expectations
were considerably high to come out of this game with
a positive result. However, the level of performance
shown by the bottom side today describes why they only
collected seven points in twenty matches.
Derby couldn't create chances, simple
as that! The players just kept hoofing the ball clear
most of the time ending up with losing the ball consistently.
As for Ghaly, he did well considering
it was his first match in months. Ghaly's passing was
good and he rarely gave away possession but the Egyptian
couldn't time his tackles very well.
Ghaly played in his original position
as a defensive midfielder and not as a right midfielder
as he used to play last season with Spurs. The Egyptian
appeared in the spotlight twice in the game. The first
when he made a late challenge on Valencia in the left
flank and almost got away with a yellow card but the
match referee lectured the Egyptian instead.
The 2nd moment for Ghaly was near the end of the first half
when he received the ball at the edge of the box and had the
chance to shoot but he ended up passing the ball to Barnes
who couldn't control the ball well and the goalkeeper collected
it in the end.
The second half was even more quiet for Ghaly
than the first and things became more difficult as Davis got
a second yellow card and had to leave the field in the 58th
minute after elbowing one of Wigan players while attempting
to head the ball.
In the 82nd minute, Wigan scored the only goal
in the game from a low shot from the edge of the box by Sibierski.
A minute later, Ghaly came off the pitch and
the game ended in another defeat for Derby which kept them
rock bottom in the table.
On the other hand, Ghaly's Tottenham lost their
away match against Chelsea by two goals to nil.
More on Ghaly's performance will follow shortly
