  • Hossam Ghaly was, as expected, dropped for the game following his behaviour in Tottenham's last match. Mido once again did not feature.

Robbie Keane opened the scoring for Spurs in the tenth minute, volleying into the back of the net after a super move involving Berbatov and Jenas. Manchester City threatened an equaliser on a number of occasions, Vassell notably forcing a great save from Paul Robinson.

However, Berbatov continued his goalscoring form with Tottenham's second on 32 minutes with a low shot into the near post. City pulled a goal back eight minutes later when Emile Mpenza headed past Robinson.

Manchester City continued to press in the second half, forcing more good saves from Robinson. However, late on, Dunne's tackle on Zokora, which looked to be outside the box, was deemed a penalty and gave Spurs the chance to extend their lead. Isaksson denied Defoe, saving the penalty, before Defoe hit the rebound over.

With this 2-1 result, and with Everton failing to beat Chelsea, Tottenham claim fifth place in the Premier League, as they did last season. This excellent achievement, finishing just behind the 'big four' gives them a place in the UEFA Cup, as well as greater league ambitions for next season.

More on Spurs, and on the future of Mido and Ghaly, soon on EP...
