"I've performed my best football since arriving at the club because of the good treatment I get from the Tottenham staff, particularly Martin Jol," Ghaly is quoted as saying.

"I didn't expect to perform so well in the Premier League, to the extent that there are negotiations with big clubs that I won't state now in order to remain concentrated," he added.

Talking about compatriot Mido, he said: "I am sad that Mido hasn't adapted with Martin Jol. He has asked to leave at the end of the season and he has an offer from Manchester City.

"But I wish for Mido to stay, as we have a great relationship, to the extent that I even search for him on the pitch in order to play the ball to him at the expense of [Dimitar] Berbatov and Robbie Keane, which has caused me many problems."

The comments may come as a shock to many, though they may have been misinterpreted.
