Ghaly's Spurs Draw at Fulham

Date: 20-1-2007
Wrote: EP's editor Islam Issa

Wins have rarely come away from home this season and today was no exception. Spurs went down with 6 minutes left but still managed to score in the 88th minute to take a single point away from Mohamed El-Fayed's Craven Cottage. Hossam Ghaly played from the start but went off after around an hour.

Hossam Ghaly was decent in the first half, and showed some fresh energy after having not started the last couple of games. He did some nice runs on the flank, particularly off the ball. He also made a few effective challenges chasing back. He should, however, have done better when he got the ball inside the box but took a poor first touch which left him fifty-fifty with the defender, and he could only scrape a shot away which was easy to hold.

Fulham went down to ten men after two bad challenges from striker Heidar Helguson. In the first half, they had looked the stronger having forced a couple of good stops from Paul Robinson.

In the 84th minute, an Andy McBride shot was blocked by Dawson, supposedly with the arm, and a penalty kick was given. Vicenzo Montella - Mido's former team-mate - tucked it home.

Yet Spurs responded immediately and won a lucky point when Pascal Chimbonda put the ball into the goal after a Tom Huddlestone free-kick had caused havoc inside the penalty box.
