Spurs suffered a surprising defeat at the hands of Reading
by three goals to one. After a relatively good start,
Egyptian midfielder Ghaly was a penalty kick for his
side and Keane scored from the spot. However, poor marking
and sloppy defending cost the guests dear as they conceded
three goals and the game ended in a shocking loss.

Co-work between Ghaly and Keane resulted in a penalty

Spurs continued their awful away form
and lost to Reading by three goals to one. The game
was a very poor display from Spurs who outplayed Chelsea
last week and Reading seemed to be an easy challenge.
The game was easy only on paper as Reading
fought for every ball and showed passion and desire
to win more than Tottenham.
The game started well for Spurs and they
managed to take the lead thanks to Ghaly who moved superbly
into the box to receive a low pass from Keane, the Egyptian
was brought down inside the area and the referee whistled
for an undisputed penalty kick for the guests, from
which Keane scored the opening goal in the 24th minute.
Everything appeared to be going according
to plan at this stage. Despite this, Spurs let Reading
score the equalizer in the 38th minute thanks to the
poor defending which let Shorey have the ball in acres
of space which gave him all the time in the world to
beat the poorly positioned Robinson from long range.
The goal came from a well struck shot,
but Spurs goalkeeper Robinson was the first to blame
because of his poor positioning between the sticks.
Things got even worse for Spurs as Reading
managed to score their 2nd goal just before half time.
The goal came after a cross from the left wing into
the area, Berbatov had a chance to clear the ball with
his head but the lazy Bulgarian let the ball go to find
Sidwell who beat Zokora to the ball and slotted it home
to make the score 2-1.
The 2nd half was even worse for Spurs,
they tried to get back into the game but most of their
passes went astray. On the other side, Reading looked
much more organized and succeeded in frustrating their
opponents using their pressing and defensive tactics.
In this half, Martin Jol made some tactical
changes in order to increase the attacking options of
his side. He brought Defoe on to replace the underperforming
full back Lee. Jol also replaced Zokora who showed very
poor display with Huddlestone.
With the introduction of Defoe, Spurs
offense looked much more dangerous as the English international
forward managed to penetrate Reading defenses in more
than one occasion.
