Spurs were favourites after winning at
Slavia Prague's home pitch by a goal to nil.
Mido started the game and was dangerous in front of
goal. He was close to latching onto a low cross from
Chimbonda early on, which he couldn't get onto the end
of.
There were plenty of half-chances but the real difference
came in the final 20 minutes. Ghaly entered in the 71st
minute and proved his worth, helping in the goal too.
When Zokora put a curling cross into the penalty area
in from the left, Ghaly jumped to chest it down in the
path of Robbie Keane, who drilled a low shot past the
keeper.
Ghaly linked up with Keane again minutes later, crossing the
ball in for the Irish striker who managed to run onto it and
head in to the near side of the net, only to see the linesman's
flag raised.
The former Feyenoord player continued to impress in the final
seconds, providing a chance for Mido on a plate of gold. Ghaly
crossed the ball from just outside the box to Mido, who charged
in but headed wide from just a few yards out. It was a reminder
of the Mido miss against Manchester United, which was provided
by another superb cross from Ghaly.
Two important things were established. Firstly Spurs are
through. And secondly, this was surely an indication to the
staff and fans alike that Hossam Ghaly means business.
