In
the opening game of the reserve season, Egyptian midfielder
Hossam Ghaly got the Spurs' reserves off to a flying
start with the winning goal in a 1-0 victory against
Portsmouth's reserves.
Ghaly's goal came just before half-time,
where he fired in from Jacques Maghoma's low cross from
all of 10-yards. Ghaly completed the full 90 minutes
and played very well. Manager of the reserves, Clive
Allen, said of the goal "Hossam struck the ball
cleanly- it was a fine goal."
Yet there was bad news for Hossam Ghaly yesterday as
Spurs strengthened their midfield with the capture of
troubled Fulham midfielder Steed Malbranque for an undisclosed
fee. This will mean that Ghaly will get less playing
time with Edgar Davids, Dider Zokara and now Steed Malbranque
ahead of him in the pecking order, amongst others. Along
with this signing on the final day of transfer dealings,
the purchase of Pascal Chimbonda for a deal believed
to be around £5 million, taking Spurs' summer
spending to £30
million.
