Fine game by Ghaly

Egyptian star midfielder Hossam Ghaly decided to reply to his manager's criticism by deeds and not by words. The Egyptian returned back to selection and showed a very good performance, he helped Feyenoord to return back to victories and scored the 4th goal in their 4-1 win over FC Groningen.

The injury of Ono combined with another injury for Booschart forced the coach Erwin Koeman to change his plans. He had no fit replacement for Booschart and so he decided to play the game with 3-4-3 formation instead of his regular 4-3-3 formation.

Ghaly back in 3-4-3 formation

Koeman needed four players in midfield and so he had to put Ghaly back to the starting line-up. The Egyptian played alongside Paauwe, De Guzman, and Kuyt.

Groningen were expected to form a defensive block and so, Feyenoord pushed men forward from the kick off.

The first chance came for Feyenoord early on as the ball fell to Kuyt in the six yards box, the Dutch international made a diving header but he missed the target.

In the 8th minute, Hossam Ghaly made a mistake that cost Feyenoord a goal. Ghaly tried to pass the ball to the left wing but his pass was intercepted, a long pass was played then to a Groningen player just outside the area, Ghaly challenged the player in the air and the referee whistled for a freekick against the Egyptian. Silva took advantage of the poorly constructed wall and found the net with his long range effort to give the guests an unexpected lead.

Later, Ghaly made a superb interception and advanced with the ball unchallenged, he then took the ball past a defender and fired a low shot at goal but the keeper parried it and the defense cleared it for a throw-in.

Good solo effort from Hossam

Feyenoord continued their pressure in order to equalize and they got a real chance for Kuyt who controlled the ball in the six yards box but his finish was poor as he sent the ball over.

Minutes later, A long searching ball was played and it found Kuyt behind the defense, he got in one on one situation with the goalkeeper and the latter saved the ball with his fingertips.

In the 2nd half, particularly in the 52nd minute, Feyenoord managed to level the score through Ali Bossaboun. The goal came through a good run from Castelen who entered the area with the ball but he lost possession and Boussaboun was following and sent the ball pst the keeper to make it 1-1.

After the goal, Groningen replied with a quick counter attack but the referee's assistant had his flag up there for offside.
