Date: 3-10-2005

It was the first time for Feyenoord to start without Hossam Ghaly and the result was a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Utrecht. Erwin Koeman wasn't happy lately with Ghaly's performance and put the youngster de Guzman instead of him in today's match. However, this didn't help Feyenoord who lost for the first time thanks to Nielsse's hat-trick.

Ghaly not selected:

The coach Erwin Koeman was furious with Hossam Ghaly after the Egyptian tried to nutmeg an opponent in Feyenoord's UEFA cup clash with Rapid Bucharest. Ghaly's "showy" move resulted in a counter attack for Rapid. In addition to this, Ghaly's performance was sub-par in the first half and so, the coach decided to replace him with the 18 year old youngster De Guzman.

Erwin Koeman acted in a very similar fashion to his brother, Ronald Koeman who forced Mido to leave Ajax a few years ago. Erwin Koeman put Ghaly outside the squad in yesterday's match and used the youngster De Guzman in his place.

Of course, this wasn't the best decision from the coach, as Ghaly was a key member in Feyenoord's midfield in all their previous games and they won all these matches with Ghaly in the main selection. The introduction of an inexperienced youngster in Ghaly's place cost the whole team dear as they lost their first match in the Eredivise by three goals to one after showing a miserable performance.
