It was a disappointing night for Feyenoord at the Kuip.
They ended their home clash with Rapid Bucharest in
an unexpected 1-1 home draw.
Ghaly and his teammate Dirk Kuyt
Hossam Ghaly's Feyenoord couldn't take their superb
Eredivisie form with them in UEFA cup as they drew at
home with the Romanian side Rapid Bucharest on Thursday
night.
The game was played behind close doors at De Kuip and
so, Feyenoord had no advantage from playing at home
as their loyal supporters couldn't attend the game.
Moreover, the game was played on a slippery pitch which
affected the gameplay and resulted in Rapid Bucharest's
equalizer as well.
Feyenoord's team captain and topscorer Dirk Kuyt gave
the Rotterdammers the lead in the 40th minute of the
game when he lopped the ball brilliantly over the keeper
into the back of the net and everything seemed to be
going according to the plan. However, Feyenoord's defender
Serginho Greene granted Rapid Bucharest a comic equalizer
in the 75th minute.

The Feyenoord defender was challenging one of Rapid players
at the edge of Feyenoord's area, the defender fell onto the
ground because of the slippery pitch and then used his hand
deliberately to clear the ball. The referee awarded Rapid
a penalty kick from which Vasilache scored the equalizer.
Feyenoord failed to reclaim their lead in the remaining minutes.
They got a few chances, and Ghaly was impressive with his
through balls. However, the game ended in a disappointing
draw.
It should be noted that the second leg match will be played
in Romania after two weeks and Feyenoord will have to win
or achieve a positive draw in order to advance to the group
stage.
