The team celebrates a famous victory...

Nobody could have imagined this to happen, but eventually Feyenoord overcame all the odds and made it a 1-2 win. It was already 4 years ago when they beat Ajax away and before that it was in 1987 when they grabbed the 3 points in Amsterdam.

The game started off good for Feyenoord, when Kalou got the ball from Kuijt and curled it into the right top corner of the goal; 0-1. A shock start.

1-0. Players celebrate; Fans celebrate...

Ajax seemed to be in control of the match for the rest of the first half, but when they got a small chance they failed to score it. Feyenoord were quite dominant in midfield, possession statistics later on proved Feyenoord had less ball possession (58% Ajax, 42% Feyenoord), but not as much as expected. Ajax’s star player Wesley Sneijder couldn’t show his qualities against Feyenoord’s 3 man midfield; Ghaly, Paauwe and Pardo.

At the end of the first half, Ajax got some chances. First De Jong shot from the side of the box. Later on it was Rosenberg and Babel who got great chances to score the equaliser, but all three failed with Lodewijks playing a good match yet again.

So Feyenoord could step off the pitch after 45 minutes with a hard-earned and deserved lead in Holland’s capital city.

After a 15 minute break they were ready for action again and that was what did occur seconds later. Some fans were still not sitting when Dirk Kuijt scored his 3rd of the season, as fellow super striker Salomon Kalou made some moves and found Kuijt in the box. 0-2.

Ghaly jumps on his team-mates after the 2nd goal...

In the following 15 minutes the visitors totally controlled the match with Ajax stunned by the 2 goal margin.

After an hour they were finally able to get the initiative and add pressure again. Escude almost scored with a header from a corner; it was Feyenoord defender Ferne Snoijl who cleared the ball from the line with his head to deny the first for Ajax.

The match continued with a red card from that very man, Snoijl, who was mentioned a line above, when he got his 2nd yellow and was sent off.

This meant that Feyenoord had to keep the win in their reach, with a 10 man squad against 11 from Ajax. It wasn’t surprising to see that Ajax got the upper hand the rest of the match, so 6 minutes later there was finally an 'Ajacied' who was able to score, his name was Charisteas. 1-2.

The Greek striker got another big chance during the 83rd minute, but Lodewijks managed to reach out his foot and keep Feyenoord alive. There was just 1 chance left for Ajax in this match when Babel got a shot on goal, but it missed the target by a metre and was not very dangerous.

The Feyenoord fans, players and staff had their fingers crossed after the red card, but the injury time passed on and the referee whistled after 93 minutes and 20 seconds.

The celebration was huge, Feyenoord had finally beaten Ajax on their soil, also maybe even being the better squad by making the chances they got and giving their 110% and fighting for every metre.

This match is the most important one of the season and for the fans this season might even already be called an ok season because of this one special win. Feyenoord played a good match, never losing real control of it, except for the last 18 minutes when Snoijl got sent off. The team spirit was huge yesterday, which was also shown when there was a little fight after an accident involving Bahia (Feyenoord) and Grygera (Ajax), as the Egyptian star Ghaly immediately stood up for his team-mate and confronted the Ajax player his own way.

Now the Rotterdammers are, together with RKC and AZ, the only squad who got 9 points out of 3 encounters. Hopefully they are able to continue this impressive form and keep on winning. This year Feyenoord has a system, they want to fight for each other and maybe this year can become an unexpected good one.

Ghaly was playing well too, praised for his team spirit in a newspaper and again getting a good note (7 out of 10) from highly regarded football magazine Voetbal International. People see Ghaly that has changed as he is doing his tasks and is still called a great talent who can become a great one in European football. Hopefully Ghaly will continue his form as Feyenoord have to too, and this season can not only become good from Feyenoord's point of view, but be great for Egyptians as well.
