Konya Too Easy for Fener
Date: 27-10-2007
Wrote: EP's editor Islam Issa

Abdelzaher El Saka's Konyaspor were annihilated by Fenerbahce as the Egyptian's team-mates made some horrible and costly mistakes.

Konya had the better start when Sedat's free-kick thumped off the crossbar. El Saka tried to head the rebound from the edge of the box but it was too difficult to keep the chance alive.

Meanwhile in defence, El Saka made a great sliding challenge on Semih, but the ball returned to Wederson who hit over.

When Konya won a corner, the stadium was silenced as Washington managed to head it home to make the score 1-0 in the 11th minute.

But Fener were to come back in style and with relative ease. From the very kick-off, they equalised. A cross was made from the right, the keeper jumped out, and the ball hit a defeneder before Semih could easily tap it in. It was a big mistake from El Saka's team-mate at the back, and the Egyptian captain put his arm around him to support him after the goal.

But that made no difference! As Fener attacked, El Saka led three of his team-mate to an offside trap with him, but again number 6 didn't respond and Alex was able to tap in an easy second goal.

Fener were alive, and when Semih dribbled past El Saka it looked as though there would be another goal, only for the keeper to save. The ball returned to the Egyptian, but he in turn tried to dribble Semih and was tackled inside his own area. Luckily, there was no chance though.

El Saka was forced to defend very shallowly away from his goal, and this led to Fener trying long shots, including a decent one from Mehmet Aurelio.

The third goal came through a massive mistake which did involve El Saka. A team-mate at the back put a sqare pass for the Egyptian, who had already taken a step back. The ball came to Wederson who easily scored. El Saka did, credit to him, not jump in to tackle, but made the job harder by
backing off slightly. It was still a huge error from Number 4, and then El Saka.

The pressure from Fener in the second half was good. El Saka made a great block to a shot but the rebound led to another shot which was saved. A corner late on led to a scramble which Edu made use of, smacking the ball in to make it 4-1 to Fenerbahce.

This game was almost a metaphor stating that El Saka must leave Konya! There were so many El Saka one-on-one tackles late on which were brilliant, but which absolutely nobody in the defensive midfield was present to gather! El Saka made a last minute block to deny a fifth goal but there is no denying it was a bad game all round.
