Abdelzaher El Saka played a true leader's role as Konyaspor got their first win of the season on the weekend.

El Saka showed why he is captain...

Konyaspor faced Istanbul Belediye, the team that is hoping to snap up both Mohamed Abdullah and Ibrahim Said in the coming transfer window.

Konya were shaky at the back throughout the game, with the Istanbul crosses proving hard to clear for the green defence. At the other end however, they did manage to take the lead after two rebounds - one of a defender and off the keeper - eventually led to a goal for Washington. They continued to threaten too, Veysel missing the target from a great curling effort after good build-up from El Saka's men.

At the start of the second half though, Istanbul Belediye equalised immediately. A little cross from the by-line, inside the right side of the area, was played in towards two free attackers, with three Konya defenders - including El Saka - standing in the box but not marking any men. The resulting header by Efe was placed beyond the keeper.

Just over a minute later, a cross from the left gave another clear header, to Kerim, and Konyaspor were behind thanks to some poor defensive positioning in El Saka's back line.

Poor marking on two occasions led to two goals...

Two minutes later Konyaspor made it 2-2 as the drama continued. A cross from the right was laid down by Veysel and Washington was able to react by studding it into the goal as it bounced inside the six-yard box before the keeper to get his hands onto it. There was perhaps a shout for dangerous play.

They almost went into the lead when Erkan struck the bar not long later from yet another header. The resulting counter-attack was fast and dangerous and El Saka made a tactical foul just outside the area in which he clearly tripped Kerim.

El Saka apologises for the foul...

Istanbul's Sertan had earlier received a yellow card for wasting time in a free-kick, and as he stood at this one, he received another for something which only the referee could have seen or heard. Konya had just under half an hour against ten men. Arguments began as well as protests from Istanbul's staff but El Saka was on hand to play a part in calming things down.

El Saka tries to appease the opposition players...

The football started again and once more El Saka was lazy at the back, a nice move beating him and his team-mates easily but the goalkeeper making a low save. Konya tried to use their man advantage and came very close three times from various efforts. They did leave gaps at the back and one counter-attack saw three Istanbul attackers against a single defender, but luckily one of the forwards mis-controlled a pass and wasted a certain chance to win the game in the last minute. Meanwhile, El Saka helped in the attack as the following long ball was headed down in style by the Egyptian, before he received the ball again on the left wing, cut out and made a right-footed cross. It was cleared but to a Konya player, who crossed again, and the header from Murat Hacioglu found the net. Hacioglu began to take his shirt off to celebrate but El Saka urged him not to and tried to physically stop him from doing so in order not to get a yellow card. He ended up shrugging El Saka away and taking it off anyway!

But fails even with a head-lock!

It was a needed win for Konyaspor, but they have a lot of thinking to do particularly if they are going to lose their captain El Saka.
