Gaziantep Cease Gencler's Cup Run
Date: 26-1-2005
Wrote: EP's reporter in Ankara Hayri Diker

Gaziantep beat Gencler by one goal, to put an end to Alkaralar's campaigns in the Turkiye Kupasi.

Gencler have been successful lately in the cup competition, having been runners-up two years in a row. However, they saw an end to this cup run, and very possibly to their European qualification too.

Gaziantep dominated the whole first half, scoring in the 36th minute via Erhan Namli after Bülent's cross from the right.

Gencler were awake in the second half and both teams missed chances. In the 54th minute, Youla's shot inside the box went wide.

On 65, Boliç shot wide after Youla's cross from right.

Gaziantep tried to settle the game later as Bouazizi's headed Tarik's free-kick, but it went wide.

With minutes left Gencler tried to equalise in any way but Boliç's shot from distance was the closest they came, and it went just wide.

El Saka, Youla and Baki were booked from Gençlerbirligi.

Ayman Abdelaziz couldn't feature as he was cup-tied, having played and even excelled in the same competition with Malatyaspor earlier this season.
