Gencler Manager Sacked
Date: 24-12-2004
Wrote: EP's reporter in Ankara Fatih Ozkan

Oguz Cetin has been sacked as manager of El Saka's side Genclerbirligi.

A club spokesman said, "The team had moved away from their pre-season targets in the league, and having been knocked out of the cup, we have no targets left to reach."

He added, "Our board has decided that we should part company with Oguz Cetin whom we regard as unsuccessful."

Both managers that followed Ersun Yanal were not impressive, namely Cetin and Erdogan Arica. Gencler were knocked out of the UEFA Cup, Turkish Cup and are currently no better than a mid-table club in the Turkish League.

The club continued, "Cetin's successor could be either Turkish or foreign. Our vice-president Atilla Aytek and general manager Cem Onuk will start searching for a new coach tomorrow."

On a note worth mention, Gencler's board said that they would look for young talents rather than famous ones, somewhat contradicting their recent interest in Ahmed Hassan. "As we did two years ago, we will turn to young players rather than famous names."

The sacked manager, Cetin, 41 years old, joined in October, but failed to make an impact, and as a result, Abdelzaher El Saka and his team-mates will work with a new coach for the second half of the season.

Despite this, El Saka has been the talk of many regarding a transfer out of the Ankara club, and so he may not get a chance to play any games under the new manager should he pack his bags and depart.

EP will bring you news on the new manager as soon as possible...
