Match Highlights:
The game saw sleety and snowy conditions on the sides,
and the pitch was not an easy one to master for the
two teams.
Gencler started the game in an attacking fashion, despite
being the visitors, and they applied much pressure.
Early on, Josip Skoko took a brilliant strike but the
Malatya keeper managed to save it.
In the 12th minute, Ayman Abdelaziz almost scored as
he took a strong shot from just outside the penalty
area, but it went just off target by a small distance!
In the 34th minute, Gencler's Tandogan and Skoko were
involved in a move which ended in a dangerous ball into
the box. Youla managed to latch onto it and he scored
the opener from close range. This gave Genclerbirligi
an away lead.
The second half lacked as many chances, but Alkaralar
managed to extend their lead.
On the hour mark, Skoko passed to Mercimek who got the
ball on the edge of the area on the left. The defender
hit a poor sliced shot which managed to deceive the
keeper and roll into the far post! 2-0 to Gencler.
With quarter of an hour left on the clock, there was
a moment of controversy. The Egyptian midfielder Ayman
got the ball on the right and played a beautiful curling
cross into the penalty area. The Gencler keeper jumped
to catch and did so but fumbled the ball moments later
as he was falling. The Malatya striker Yunus managed
to tap the ball in and score what seemed to be a fine
goal, but the referee ruled it out, much to the home
side's frustration.
Malatyaspor surprisingly lost, and this was met by
jeers from the crowd.
This win for El Saka's club levels them on points with
Ayman's side, with Malatya in 6th and Gencler in 7th,
4 points behind the 4th and 5th placed teams.
